To create a one-of-a-kind destination for Houston travelers seeking an exceptional stay, Bunkhouse teamed up with the esteemed design firm, Post Company. The architecture by renowned Texas firm Lake | Flato has a residential sensibility that is integrated seamlessly with the surrounding neighborhood. The property occupies the block bound by Loretto Drive, Colquitt Street, Mandell Street, and West Main Street with five small two-story buildings, intersected by a series of lushly landscaped courtyards and winding outdoor pathways amidst mature heritage oaks. Hotel Saint Augustine nestles into the neighborhood by adhering to the neighborhood's two-story residential character. A succession of buildings is ordered around four courtyards, immersing guests in a private garden. Individual buildings are connected by open-air bridges and porches, keeping a residential scale and encouraging exploration. The natural landscape is a central element of the design, with landscape architecture by lauded Texas studio, Ten Eyck, who worked with The John Fairey Garden in Hempstead for several years to cultivate a collection of rare and native plants for the hotel’s grounds including eyelash sage, dwarf rock palm, and blue rabbit’s foot fern.
